Sri Lanka Emergency

Sri Lanka finds itself in the midst of a severe and escalating humanitarian crisis. Over the past few weeks, as families flee fighting in the north of the country, Vavuniya District has become the primary catchment area for temporary settlement and care. Schools, hospitals and other government buildings are currently being used as “transit camps” to house over 40,000 people and RI estimates that over 100,000 additional displaced persons could move into Vavuniya district in the next few weeks, an overwhelming influx for the support structures currently in place.

Our Response
Relief International is working in the College of Education, Saivapiragasa, Menic Farm School, and Cheddikulam Maha Vidayalam Camps to support families through the distribution of hygiene kits, baby kits, blankets, kitchen kits and soap. Many of the children are suffering from severe trauma are in the care of RI psychosocial support services. As the number of displaced persons grows and the needs mount, Relief International needs your help to provide basic services.
